CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Laramie County Community College recovered from a loss to Northeastern Junior College by taking down McCook Community College in four sets (25-19, 25-14, 21-25, 25-23) Friday afternoon in Cheyenne. The win moves the 18th ranked Golden Eagles to 27-8 overall and into another match on Saturday.
Avery Nelson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) led the Golden Eagles with 18 kills and three blocks. Kylie Martin (Gypsum, Colorado) collected 13 kills, six digs and three blocks. Elizabeth Clark (Sandy, Utah) posted four kills and nine blocks. Payton Stack (Casper, Wyoming) added four kills and five blocks. Kasandra Sturges (Parker, Colorado) tallied eight digs. Sturges and Gwen Sheldon (Loveland, Colorado) combined for 36 assists and 15 digs.
"I was proud of the way that our ladies responded after a tough loss last night and a quick turn around," said head coach Austin Albers. "McCook has been a team that has been a tough match-up for us this year and it was big for us to be able to get out of this one in four. Now we're back on the momentum train and we need to keep pushing forward tomorrow."
LCCC will play Western Wyoming tomorrow at 12:00 PM. Winner will play in the District D Championship against loser of Western Nebraska Community College and Northeastern Junior College.
