Golden Eagles Serve Western Wyoming Loss

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College volleyball team secured a 3-2 victory over Western Wyoming Community College at home on Friday.

The Golden Eagles improve to 18-5 overall and 3-0 in Region IX North play with the victory over the Mustangs. The score of the match was 25-13, 24-26, 25-8, 24-26, 15-7.

In the first set, the Golden Eagles offense started off well scoring the first point of the set. With the score tied at eight all, the Golden Eagles went on a 5-1 scoring drive to gain some separation. The Golden Eagles forced the Mustangs to use their second timeout up 17-10 in the first set. LCCC would take the first set 25-13.

The Mustangs offense sparked in the second set jumping out to an early lead. LCCC used a run to regain the lead at 11-10. Western Wyoming would respond and take a 17-15 lead and both team continued to fire back-and-forth scoring.

The Golden Eagles would tie the set up at 22-22 but would end up dropping the set 24-26.

LCCC limited Western Wyoming to a -.057 hitting percentage in the third set. The Golden Eagles came out flying by taking an 8-0 run to start the match and pushed that run to 14-3. Another scoring run sparked the Golden Eagles offense and gave them a comfortable 25-8 win in the set.

Laramie County was up early in set number four against WWCC but the Mustangs would rally back and take the set 26-24.

In the final set, LCCC offense continued to connect with kills and jumped ahead 6-2. The Mustangs had a hard time getting going and LCCC would secure the set 15-7 and match 3-2.

Kylie Martin (Gypsum, Colorado) led the match with a team-high 18 kills, followed by freshman Avery Nelson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) who connected on 17 kills. Martin and Nelson had nine and six digs respectively. Kyra Brandt (Amsterdam, Netherlands) dished out a team-high 42 assists and three aces. On defense, freshman Macy Bourn (Frederick, Colorado) led the team with 21 digs. Brandt followed with 17 digs.

The Golden Eagles continue Region IX play tomorrow with a match against Central Wyoming College at 3 p.m.
