Golden Eagles Hand CWC a Loss in Region IX Tournament

The Laramie County Community College volleyball team opened the Region IX North Tournament in Riverton on Wednesday. The second seed Golden Eagles took on the seven seed Central Wyoming College, winning 3-1. LCCC moves to 25-8 on the year.  

In set number one, the Golden Eagles jumped out early and took a 14-10 lead midway through. They pushed that lead to as many as five before the Rustlers battled back to get it within three points. LCCC would not allow them to come any closer in striking distance and took the set 25-20.

CWC would use a run early on to take a six point lead in their favor. A push from the Golden Eagles brought them back within two but the Wrestlers held on for the 25-22 win.

A close start to set three would swing in favor of the Golden Eagles mid-way through. LCCC used 13-4 run to open a 20-11 lead. The Golden Eagles would not allow a late push and to the third set 25-12.

With things knotted up early on in set four, LCCC then jumped to a 13-7 lead. Trailing throughout the set, the Rustlers used a late scoring run to bring the set within three. The late push would not be enough as the Golden Eagles scored the final points of the set, winning 25-22.

Tori Passarelli was strong defensively, picking up 25 digs. Kyra Brandt picked up 34 assists, while Elizabeth Clark led LCCC in blocks. Madi Taylor recorded 16 kills in the victory.

The Golden Eagles take on Sheridan College in Riverton on Thursday in the next round of the Region IX North Tournament. Play is set to begin at 6 p.m.
