Volleyball Stops No. 16 Eastern Wyoming in Four Sets

The LCCC volleyball team improved to 15-5 overall and 2-0 in Region IX North with a 3-1 win over Eastern Wyoming College Tuesday night in Torrington.

The Golden Eagles started the first set really slow as they were down 11-0 in the set and had to burn both timeouts before they scored a point. LCCC slowly started to gain their composure and chip away at the score. They narrowed the margin to four at 15-19 and used a late run to steal the first set 25-23 behind some big blocks.

After a back-and-forth start to the second set, Laramie County was able control the set and take it 25-21, including several aces from Elizabeth Clark who finished the match with three.

The Lancers found their offense in the third set and hung around with the Golden Eagles. Carmen Carvajal was able to get in front of the net for some kills to take the set 28-26.

LCCC led the entire fourth set, building from a 15-11 lead and responded well after the Lancers went on a 5-0 run to retake the lead and push for the win 25-20 in the set.

Preston Lienemann led with 14 kills in the match. Carlee Morrison chipped in with eight kills and a team high 17 digs. Tori Passarelli recorded 16 digs. Madi Taylor and Kiley Ridgway were big in front of net with eight and seven blocks respectively.

The next Region IX match on the docket is a home date with Western Wyoming Community College on Friday, September 30. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
