Jorge "Lugo" Arenas joins the Laramie County Community College women's soccer team as their third head coach in program history.

In his first season at the helm, Arenas saw immidiate success as he was able to guide the Golden Eagles to a Region IX Championship and their second straight NJCAA National Tournament appearance and first as a head coach. The team picked up seven on the All-Region IX team including four on the first team and as a group had eight clean sheets over the course of the season in which they went undefeated in Region IX play with a 7-0-3 record on the way to a 10 win season.

Six players from the team signed to play at the next level, including a pair of Division I athletes, Caroline Kuhn, who signed at the University of North Dakota after being named an All-American, and Kayt Ward, who will attend Houston Christian University. Three more Golden Eagles signed to play at NCAA Divison II schools and a fourth will be heading to the NAIA level.

Arenas, who is originally from Cheyenne and a 2010 graduate of Cheyenne East High School has ties to both the area and to LCCC where he played his first two years of collegiate soccer before he would attend Waldorf University where he graduated from in 2015.

As a coach, Arenas has spent time coaching at multiple levels, including as the head coach of the Cheyenne Soccer Club before working as the assistant coach for the Buena Vista University (Iowa) men's soccer team and a return to Waldorf where he would take over as the head women's soccer coach in the spring of 2018.

Waldorf would see it's first winning season since 2013 in the 2020-21 season under the mentorship of Arenas and just missed out on the Association of Independent Institutions postseason tournament. He turned the program around after it went just 2-11 in his first year with eight forfiet losses. He finished his time at Waldorf with a record of 14-28-1.

After graduating with a degree in Sports Management and a minor in Business, Arena holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Diploma, and NSCAA Level 1 & 2 Goalkeeping Diplomas.

"I am born and raised in Cheyenne, WY. I have been involved in collegiate coaching for the last 8 years, with 5 of those as a head coach. I played men's soccer during my time at LCCC and continue to be an avid sports fan. A few hobbies include staying active, outdoor activities and attending sporting events. I enjoy being able to make an impact on our student athletes futures and guiding them through life."
