Golden Eagles Open Pool Play With Win

EVANS, GA - The Golden Eagles opened pool play in the NJCAA Women's Soccer Championship with a  3-0 win over Kansas City Kansas on Friday evening.

Kansas City controlled possession for a majority of the first half before the Golden Eagles were able to take control.

Ellie MacKendrick (Tabernash, Colo.) opened the scoring in the 30th minute of the first half, hitting a ball into the upper corner just outside the box, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. 

Goalkeeper Caely Pickerd (Laramie, Wyo.) kept the Golden Eagles in front in the second half, making two saves to keep the Golden Eagles in the lead.

Jenaya Brown (Edmonton, Alberta) pushed the Golden Eagles' lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 60th minute, taking a feed from Erika Scivally (Saratoga Springs, Utah) and beating the keeper with a shot from inside the box.

The Golden Eagles put the game away thanks to a Beyonce Robinson (Brampton, Ontario) goal in the 74th minute, extending the lead to 3-0.

The Golden Eagles will face Eastern Florida State at 3:00 pm MDT on Saturday in the final game of pool play.
