Golden Eagles Defeat Bruins with Second Half Scores

CHEYENNE, WY – The LCCC women's soccer team won their home opener vs Salt Lake Community College 2-1 on Friday afternoon in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The Golden Eagles outshot their guest 17-4 in the match and limited the Bruins shots on goal to just three in the match. Laramie County used a pair of second half goals to claim the victory.

Both teams struggled to get shots in the first half as the two squads stayed organized in the back. LCCC came out of the halftime break and stepped up their attack sending nine shots in the second half and forcing Ashley Sargent to make some saves.

A scramble in front of the Salt Lake goal resulted in the shot that found the back of the net in the 59th minute giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Goal was credited to Taylor Stoeger. Nine minutes later in the match, LCCC added an insurance goal in the 68th minute to push their advantage to 2-0. Abby Morillon scored the second goal and Nikita Woods was giving the assist. Salt Lake would cut the lead in half with a goal in the 78th minute from Sydney Hathaway.

The Golden Eagles will remain at home for their second home game of the season on Sunday, Sept. 3. Laramie County will face off against the Reivers of Iowa Western Community College at 2:30 P.M.
