Women’s Soccer Wins in Shootout

Melbourne – Aubri Schneider converted on a fifth penalty kick to give the #3 seed Golden Eagles a 5-4 shootout win over #10 seed Schoolcraft College (MI) women's soccer team Monday evening.

LCCC (18-1-3) outshot Schoolcraft 19-4 in the match and had the advantage in 11-3 in shots-on goal. Jemma House got the Golden Eagles on the board first in the 14th minute as Shauni Griffiths found her in the middle at the top of the box. Schoolcraft answered in the 26th minute on a mistake from the Golden Eagles in the back. Ocelots took the lead in the 38th minute on another mistake from the backline. Schoolcraft doubled their lead in the 42nd minute to give them a 3-1 lead at the half.

The Golden Eagles controlled possession throughout the match and were rewarded for their efforts in the 64th minute as Nikita Woods crossed the ball to House who found the back of the net. LCCC leveled the score in the 74th minute on a goal from Griffiths on the left side. The match finished 3-3 during regulation and headed to overtime.

In the overtime period, LCCC would test the goalkeeper but couldn't find the golden goal. Match would head to a shootout to determine a winner and would convert all five kicks from the spots. Aubrey Gessner made the first, Shauni Griffiths made the second, Natalie De Marco got the third, Abby Morillon made the fourth and Schneider propelled the Golden Eagles to victory.

LCCC now has a day off before they are in action again. They will play the host Eastern Florida State College Wednesday at 5:30 est and look to move to the semi-finals.
