Golden Eagles Earn Region IX Championship

The Laramie County Community College Women's Soccer team celebrated as they captured the Region IX Championship on Sunday. LCCC defeated Otero Junior College 5-0 at Metro State University, moving to 18-1-1 overall.

LCCC defeated the Rattlers for the third time this season. LCCC got on the board in the 13th minute as Shauni Griffiths delivered a corner kick and Jemma House finished off the half volley. House would get on the board again in the 24th minute on a first time finish on a cross from Nikita Woods. The Golden Eagles made it 3-0 in the 27th as Natalie De Marco passed the ball out wide to Woods who beat the defender and finished.

The fourth goal would come in the 58th minute when Aubrey Gessner played a through ball to House who dribbled the keeper and scored. House now has 29 goals on the year and is tied for fourth in the country in goals. The final goal came in the 89th minute as Sarah Erickson crossed a ball to the back post and Dani House got on the end of it.

Sophomore goalkeeper, Jess Urquhart was locked in throughout, picking up the shutout. Urquhart recorded three saves and then was relieved by Kelly Morine the final nine minutes.

LCCC finished the game with 15 shots, 10 on goal. The defense was strong throughout, holding OJC to just three shots.

The Golden Eagles will now play their District C Final on the road, with a matchup in Ephraim, Utah. LCCC takes on Snow College on November 5th; play is set to begin at 12 p.m.
