Golden Eagles Deal Mustangs Shutout in Semi-Final

The Laramie County Community College Women's Team kicked off the Region IX semi-final of play in Denver, Colorado Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles took on Western Wyoming Community College. LCCC dealt the Mustangs a 4-0 loss, moving to 18-1-1 overall and spot in the Region IX final.

Laramie County struck their first goal of the match in the 12th minute of play, taking a 1-0 advantage. Shauni Griffiths played Jemma House into space and converted on her shot. LCCC made it 2-0 in the 18th minute as Aubrey Gessner played a ball back to Abby Morillon who finished on a first time strike.

 LCCC would extend the lead to three in the 45th minute with a goal by Elise Atkins who beat the keeper on a 1v1. Nikita Woods was credited with the assist. The Golden Eagles found themselves up 3-0 at the half.

The Golden Eagles put up another goal in the second half, as Natalie De Marco combined with Woods inside the 18 yard box for the goal to give LCCC the 4-0 win.

The Golden Eagles put up 31 shots with 17 of those on goal in the match. Jess Urquhart played 77 minutes in goal before being relieved by Kelly Morine. The two didn't have to make a save in the game.

Golden Eagles will now square off against Otero Junior College on Sunday October 30th at Metro State University for the Region IX Championship. Play is set to begin at 2 p.m.
