Hat-Tricks from Morillon & Griffiths Lifts Golden Eagles

A goal in the first minute of action by Abby Morillon on a pass from Shauni Griffiths got the Golden Eagles on the right start in way to 8-0 Region IX win over Western Nebraska Community College on Wednesday in Scottsbluff.

The Golden Eagles (13-1-1, 12-1 in Region XI) have pushed their unbeaten streak to 13 and have outscored their opponents 62-3 in those games.

Jemma House made it 2-0 in the 12th minute as she made a diagonal run and Morillon played the ball into her stride for the finish. House now has a team-high 22 goals on the year, which is a tie for 6th most in the country. Griffiths got her first in the 22nd minute on a cross from Maria da Silveira. Nikita Woods made it 4-0 right before the half on a combination inside the box.

LCCC kept the pressure on the Cougars and got on the board again in the 46th minute when Aubrey Gessner played Griffiths a diagonal ball for the goal. Morillon would tack on two more goals in the 71st and 81st minute on passes from da Silveira and Griffiths. Griffiths completed her hat-trick in the 89th minute off a cross from Aubri Schneider.

The Golden Eagles owned the advantages in shots 41-11 and 24-4 on shots-on-goal. Morillon led the Golden Eagles with 10 shots in the game, while House had eight.

Jess Urquhart secured her eighth shutout of the season in goal for the Golden Eagles with four saves. She now has 33 saves on the season.

No. 5 LCCC returns to action on Friday as they host No. 1 Eastern Florida State College at 3:30 p.m. at LCCC Field.
