Golden Eagles Win 2-0 Against Otero JC

In the 2016 Region IX season opener, the LCCC women' soccer team beat Otero Junior College 3-2 on the road. Late Saturday afternoon the Golden Eagles completed the regular season sweep of the Rattlers with a 2-0 shutout at home.

LCCC (10-1-1) totaled 13 shots in the contest with six coming on the frame. Sophomore Jemma House (Newcastle, Australia) collected a team-high six shots, with three on goal. Sophomore Shauni Griffiths (Dartford, England) and freshman Abby Morillon (Cheyenne, Wyoming) added three shots apiece, with Morillon putting two on goal.

Sophomore Jess Urquhart (Sydney, Australia) boasted her eighth clean sheet of the year was a perfect 6-for-6 in saves. The shutout was Urquhart's 12th of her LCCC career.

The Golden Eagles and Rattlers played a scoreless first half in the initial 45 minutes of the contest with each team garnering three shots.

In the second half, House led the offensive charge and posted a pair of shots in the net. The first came in the 75th minute when she pressured the centerback and took it away and scored on a breakaway. The second came in the 81st minute as Sarah Erickson (Cheyenne, Wyoming) played a through ball into space for her to run onto and tapped it by the keeper.

The Golden Eagles return to Region IX action on Friday, Oct. 7 in Powell, Wyoming. The Golden Eagles will face-off with the Trappers from Northwest College at 3 p.m.
