Golden Eagle women drop road game to Eastern Wyoming 82-67

TORRINGTON, WY – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team dropped their second straight Region IX North game on Friday night, falling to Eastern Wyoming College 82-67 on the road after the Lancers put up 53 points in the second half to pull away from the Golden Eagles.

The game started out in a much different form, with LCCC pulling out in front to lead 11-4 early on thanks to balanced scoring in the opening four minutes. The offense dried up though and EWC rallied back to go on an 11-2 run to close out the first quarter and take a 15-13 lead.

Both teams played the second quarter closely, trading leads through the opening minutes until the Lancers, up 22-20, went on a 5-0 run to push ahead 27-20.

LCCC didn't fade away though, and answered to trim the deficit back to three, trailing 29-26 heading into the locker rooms.

The Lancers hit the opening bucket of the second half, but LCCC took over from there in the first few minutes to surge to a 7-0 run on the strength of shooting from Kelly Megown and Blanche Toualeu to take the lead back 33-32.

EWC responded with an answering run of 11-3 and with at the midway point of the quarter had rebuilt their lead to match a game high seven points. The third quarter would get away from the Golden Eagles from there and the Lancers outscored them 25-15 in the frame to go into the fourth up 54-41 with a game high lead of 13.

There was no quit in the Golden Eagles in the final quarter, and the team finished with their best offensive quarter as their final quarter with 26 points as a team, including a ten point quarter from Alba Garrido-Lamas and another seven from Lylah Spring, but the defense couldn't figure out an answer to the three point shooting of the Lancers who made eight second half triples and a surprising 17 point night from Hailey Long.

A 28 point final quarter from EWC was the result and the Golden Eagles dropped to 7-11 on the season and 0-2 in Region IX North action with the second straight loss.

LCCC was paced in the game by four double-digit performances including a career high 13 points from Garrido-Lamas. Spring finished with 14 and Toualeu added 12 points. Megown capped the night off with 11, including three three-pointers.
