LCCC leads from start to finish as they down McCook 65-48

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team picked up their fifth win of the season thanks to an overpowering offensive performance in the second half of their 65-48 win over McCook Community College on Saturday afternoon at Storey Gym.

Another early run of offense greeted the Golden Eagles to the court with a 9-0 advantage giving them some comfort in the opening quarter thanks to a balanced attack that the Indians had trouble keeping up with.

The second quarter didn't have the same dominant start for LCCC and in face McCook picked up their shooting to nibble into the deficit several times thanks to making four three pointers in the quarter to go into the half only down 28-21 to LCCC.

In the third the Golden Eagles made their move to take control. Working the ball inside to Lylah Spring who had nine points and four rebounds in the third quarter alone, she helped lead the team to a 21-11 run through the ten minutes to go up by 17 into the fourth quarter.

That lead helped the team to play some of their bench players getting some extra time on the court and that allowed for McCook to keep pace after the Golden Eagles had built the lead to a game high 21 with just over nine minutes left in the contest.

A few of those baskets in the fourth came from Kelly Megown who finished going 6-9 from deep to finish with 18 points to lead the team. Her six three's is also tied for second most in a single game in school history.

LCCC finished off the game with a 65-48 victory and moved back to .500 on the season.

Megown led the scoring for the team, and she was joined by Spring and Tamara Smith-White who finished with 16 and 14 points respectively.

The ball was moving well for LCCC in the game as was shown by their 15 assists in the game. The team was also hot from the field, shooting 39 percent from deep and were nearly perfect from the line, going 8-10.

The Golden Eagles will continue their season on Wednesday when they make the road trip to Air Force Prep for a game with the Huskies. Tipoff is set for 5:00 pm in Colorado Springs on the Academy grounds. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm. More information can be found at www.golccc.com.
