CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a convincing 73-55 win over Gillette College on Friday afternoon in the Thanksgiving Classic at Storey Gym.

LCCC opened the game with conviction thanks to a 9-2 run in the opening three minutes. The Pronghorns were able to settle down into their own rhythm as the quarter continued and answered with a 12-3 run of their own to take a 14-12 lead, but the runs weren't over in the frame, and LCCC closed with a 7-2 run for a 19-16 lead at the end of one.

The second quarter had a different feel, and it all began with a 15-0 run by the Golden Eagles that didn't see Gillette score until nearly five minutes had elapsed. That helped the Golden Eagles to a 43-23 lead at the break which was pushed along by a 14-point half by Blanche Toualeu and ten more from Kelly Megown.

The second half was a more balanced affair with fewer wild swings of momentum. The Pronghorns used the third quarter to nibble away at the deficit but couldn't get closer than 53-40 in the final minute of the third and trailed 56-40 going to the final quarter where LCCC iced the game away for a 73-55 win.

The Golden Eagles were led in the game by Toualeu who finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Megown and Lylah Spring both had 15 points and ten LCCC players finished with points in the game.

Spring continued to be a force inside with another four blocks seven rebounds and as a team LCCC outrebounded Gillette 54-52 and forced 19 turnovers. Unfortunately, turnovers were an issue for the Golden Eagles too with 25 in the game, 16 of which came on Pronghorn steals.

As a team, LCCC shot 42.6 percent from the field and converted on 16 of their 25 free throw attempts.

The Golden Eagles won't have another game as a part of the Thanksgiving Classic but will be back home for more action on Tuesday, November 28th when they host the Colorado State University Club team at Storey Gym. Opening tip is scheduled for 5:00 pm and more information is available at www.golccc.com.
