LCCC women power their way to win over Central Wyoming in Region IX play-in game

CHEYENNE, WY - In their final home game of the season, the Laramie County Community College women's basketball team did disappoint the crowd as they cruised to a 75-48 win over Central Wyoming College on Saturday afternoon at Storey Gym.

The offense was a little slow out of the gate, but the defense was on point in the opening frame giving time for the hot hand of Shannon Niles to spark the LCCC scoring, making three straight triples to open the door for LCCC to build a 23-7 lead after just a quarter of play.

The ball went from the outside scorers to the inside threats as the game progressed and the Central Wyoming zone defense was stretched, allowing Jamy de Kock to take over with her driving abilities and the lead ballooned to 60-39 by the time the fourth quarter began despite a pair of 16 point frames from the Rustlers thanks to a barage of three's as they tried to rally back into the game.

In the final period, Laramie County clamped down on defense again and held CWC to just nine points and finished off the win 75-48 to improve their season record to 20-9 going into the Region IX quarterfinals in Scottsbluff this week.

The Golden Eagles were paced in scoring by De Kock with 23 points which was just two off of a career high for the sophomore out of the Netherlands. Niles also added a career high with 16 points and Monique Marcetic-Vaotangi rounded out the Laramie County players in double figures.

LCCC was also dominant on the boards and were led by Lylah Spring's 16 rebounds and saw Halle Hester tack on 11 more as the Golden Eagles outrebounded the Rustlers 50-33 over the course of the game.

The Golden Eagles are set to play in Scottsbluff at the Cougar Palace at 12:30 against Otero College in the quarterfinals of the Region IX championships.
