Golden Eagle women fall on the road to Northwest 76-59

POWELL, WY – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team dropped a tough road test 76-59 to Northwest College.

It was a slow start through most of the first half for LCCC, finding themselves down 7-2 midway through the frame. The Golden Eagles kept close the rest of the frame and entered the second quarter down 13-7.

Northwest kept the offensive heat on in the second and eventually would build the lead to 22-7 with seven minutes remaining. Laramie County did close into the gap from there and took back a bit of control with a 15-11 run to close the quarter.

Halfway through the third, the Trappers reclaimed the momentum and build the lead to a game high 16 with five minutes to go forcing an LCCC timeout and the final five minutes would play out with the Golden Eagles unable to close the gap trailing 56-39.

The two sides would play to a 20-20 draw in the final frame as the Golden Eagles dropped their second conference game 76-59 on the road.

Head Coach Ayana McWilliams said she was proud of the effort her team gave through the night despite the final score and she said they responded well to adversities they faced.

"We had to band together and figure out how to play our game and not allow what's happening around us to influence the way we play."

Nikola Kuzmanovic had the top night for Laramie County with 15 points on a 4 for 6 night from the field.

"She's a kid that always remains positive and she has a bigger role on our team than most people think," McWilliams said praising the sophomore from London. "Tonight, the stat sheet reflected the impact that she's always had on our team."

Lylah Spring and Jamy de Kock both finished just shy of double figures in the game with nine each.

Fouls were a big story in the game. The Golden Eagles picked up four technical fouls from de Kock and Hester and Northwest took 46 free throws in the game to just 16 for LCCC.

The defense for Laramie County did hold the Trappers to just 36 percent shooting in the game but were only able to shoot 35 percent on their end to counter.

The Golden Eagles return home for a week long home stand this weekend when they host Eastern Wyoming College on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The game will be the first Pink Out night for the Golden Eagles and tickets can be purchased for the game at www.golccc.com.
