Golden Eagles Fall on Road at #19 Casper

CASPER, Wyoming - #19 Casper College shot 44.4 percent, 34.8 percent from 3-point range, to hand Laramie County Community College a 79-55 defeat in Region IX North women's basketball action Saturday at Swede Erickson Gymnasium in Casper.

Laramie County (16-8, 5-3) only shot 51.6 percent at the free throw line. Both teams finished with 41 rebounds. LCCC did commit 17 turnovers. The Thunderbirds (20-3, 7-1) picked up their sixth straight win to remain in second in the Region IX North standings. LCCC, who has handed Casper their only loss in Region IX North play, is in fourth in the Region standings.

Both teams struggled to score out of the gate, as Casper held a 13-10 lead after the first quarter. Casper was able to extend the lead to double-digits in the second quarter and took a 33-23 lead into the half. Casper had an explosive third quarter outscoring the Golden Eagles 28-13. The Golden Eagles offense was stronger in the fourth, but it was enough to comeback on the Thunderbirds.

Abby Garreaud (Magna, Utah) poured in a team-high 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor and a 5-of-9 afternoon at the free throw line. Saraven Allen (St. George, Utah) added 11 points. Anna Terron (Terragona, Spain), Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas), Karly Mathern (Windsor, Colorado) and Sariah Jones (Roy, Utah) had six points. Terron and Sam Hester (Saratoga Springs, Utah) had five rebounds. Hester also had three steals.

Natalia Otkhmezuri led two Thunderbirds in double figures with 22 points. Juneau Jones and Emily Achter had three assists. Jones added three steals to her stat line. Kammie Ragsdale chipped in 16 points. Marija Bakic led them in boards with seven.

Laramie County is on the road this Wednesday to take on Eastern Wyoming College (12-10, 5-3) at 5:30 p.m. in Torrington, Wyo.
