Golden Eagles Defeat Trappers, 78-59

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – On Wednesday night, the Golden Eagles hosted the Trappers of Northwest College in a Region IX North contest. Thanks to a night of sharp shooting from the field, the Golden Eagles charged past the Trappers to a 78-59 victory. The Golden Eagles move to 16-7 on the season and 5-2 in Region IX North play.

To begin the game, the Golden Eagles exchanged baskets with the Trappers. Saraven Allen (St. George, Utah) scored the first five points for the Golden Eagles. The Trappers kept pace with the sharp-shooting Golden Eagles early in the first quarter. LCCC closed the quarter on an 11-5 run to take the advantage after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles were able to gain some separation closing out the half on a 10-2 run to take a 44-30 lead into halftime. Anna Terron (Terragona, Spain) hit three three-point buckets in the first half.

In the third quarter, LCCC was able to continue to get some good looks at the basket and pushed the lead to 17 at the end of the quarter. The Golden Eagles closed out the game with some strong defense to snag their fifth Region IX North win.

As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 38.3 percent (23-60) from the field and 30 percent (9-30) from beyond the arc. At the line, the Golden Eagles made 23-of-31 (74%) free throws. The Golden Eagles pulled down 46 total rebounds, including 11 offensive rebounds.

Individually, Terron scored a game-high 19 points. Allen followed with 16 points while Abby Garreaud (Magna, Utah) added 10 points going 5-of-11 from the field. On the boards, Sam Hester (Saratoga Springs, Utah) led with nine rebounds. Hester dished out five of the Golden Eagles 15 assists and she collected four steals. Five Golden Eagles recorded a block in the game.

The Golden Eagles will be back on the road for Region IX North action on Saturday, February 1st at 2 p.m. against #19 Casper College in Casper, Wyoming.
