Golden Eagles Race Past Lady Knights

CHEYENNE, Wyoming - After hosting McCook Community College the night before, the Golden Eagles were ready to play host to another Nebraska foe. The Lady Knights of North Platte Community College rushed out of the tip utilizing a fast-paced offense and sharp shooting first quarter to take the lead, but it was the Golden Eagles who would storm back for a 67-51 win on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles move to 8-3 on the season.

The Lady Knights opened the first quarter on a 14-5 run. Kaysen Hobbs (Fort Collins, Colorado) helped get the Golden Eagles back into it with a putback. Ximena Gutierrez (Glenwood Springs, Colorado) would sink a bucket to close the gap. The Lady Knights outscored the Golden Eagles 19-15 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a great start and took the lead three minutes into the quarter. They would hold North Platte to just six points in the quarter and lead 35-25 at the half. This would give the Golden Eagles momentum out of the half. They continued to attack the basket and would close out the game at the free-throw line to keep their distance to hang on for the victory.

As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 33.3 percent (21-63) from the field, and 23.1 percent from beyond the arc. At the line, the Golden Eagles were 19-of-22 (86.4%). The Golden Eagles pulled down 45 total rebounds, including 12 offensive rebounds. Saraven Allen (St. George, Utah) and Karly Mathern (Windsor, Colorado) led the Golden Eagles with 13 points.
