LCCC Falls to NJC 72-61 in Region IX Quarterfinal

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – Laramie County Community College dropped its Region IX Quarterfinal match 72-61 to Northeastern Junior College at the Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff.

The Golden Eagles (19-11) were held to 34.5 percent shooting from the field by the Plainswomen on the afternoon. LCCC was outscored 13-0 on second chance points and outrebounded 46-22 on the glass.

Gabi O'Connor (Colorado Springs, Colorado) led LCCC with 24 points in 36 minutes of action. The redshirt freshman guard hit three three-pointers and dished out two assists on the afternoon. Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas) followed with 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

A strong first quarter from the Plainswomen gave them a 14 point lead as the Golden Eagles were held to just six points. LCCC stormed back and went on a 15-2 run in the second quarter to cut the lead down to four but could not get any closer than that.

As a team, the Golden Eagles only hit four three-pointers and shot 23.5 percent from the three-point line. NJC shot 50 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from the three-point line.

The Golden Eagles season comes to an end with a team-best 19 wins.
