Lady Golden Eagles Fall on the Road

LA JUNTA – With a four game streak, the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles looked to pick up a Region IX win on Tuesday night on the road but fell 68-56 to Otero Junior College.

The Golden Eagles (8-4) had been shooting the ball well in their previous games, but struggled on Tuesday. The Rattlers (7-4), showed up ready to play especially in the second half. The Golden Eagles jumped out early were up 18-14, after the first quarter.

The Golden Eagles were led by Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) with 12 points. O'Brien went 5-of-8 from the field. Gabi O'Connor (Colorado Springs, Colorado) who had 32 points in the previous game was held to eight points but did dish out two assists. Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) followed with 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Also in double digits was Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) who contributed 10 points.

Grace O'Neil was OJC's leading scorer with 22 points and seven rebounds. Laura Prado-Morales added 20 and Hilda Garcia had 10.

Laramie County shot 20-of-50 (38.8%) in field goals, and 4-of-14 (28.6%) from the three. The Golden Eagles had 19 bench points. The Rattlers shot 27-of-59 (45.8%) from the field and 1-of-15 (6.7%) from the three-point line. LCCC suffered 15 turnovers while the Rattlers had 14 total.

The Golden Eagles will be back on the road at 4:30 p.m. Friday against North Platte Community College (2-8). The Golden Eagles defeated NPCC 105-36 earlier in the year.
