Women’s Basketball Battles Back for Key Victory over Lamar

CHEYENNE – If there has been a theme for this year's Laramie County Community College women's basketball team, it is that the Golden Eagles always find a way. Saturday's afternoon home matchup against Lamar Community College was no different, as LCCC fought back after a tough first half to come away with the 79-75 win over the Lopes.

The Golden Eagles sit tied in second in the Region IX South with a 4-2 record and improve to 12-9 on the year. The Lopes drop to 10-10 overall and 3-3 in the Region IX South.

The Golden Eagles got a big contribution from freshman guard Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) as she dropped 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Fellow freshman Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) added 16 points and seven steals. Sarah Kruthaupt (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Caylin Arnold (Strasburg, Colorado) each had 13 points in the contest.

The Lopes were led by a 23-point and 13 rebound effort from Iva Belosevic. Kiara Budd finished 11 points and Sam Caruth had 11 points.

Both teams shot the ball within their averages. LCCC edged Lamar from the floor with 46 percent while the Lopes shot 42.4 percent.

The Golden Eagles battled well on the boards, holding Lamar to 37 rebounds. LCCC pulled down 44 rebounds in the game.
