LCCC Women’s Basketball Falls to Eastern Wyoming College

CHEYENNE – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team fell to Eastern Wyoming College Lancers 74-67 in a South Sub Region game.

Katelyn Smith (Loveland, Colorado) and Caylin Arnold (Strasburg, Colorado) led the Golden Eagles with 11 points on the night. Sarah Bersang led the Lancers with 18 points. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 8-9 on the season and 2-4 in South Sub Region play. The Lancers had four players score in double figures.

EWC took the lead after the quarter 16-11 as they capitalized on some turnovers by the Golden Eagles. In the second quarter the Golden Eagles fell behind by as many as 16 and didn't record their first field goal of the quarter till about six minutes in. Eastern Wyoming would lead at the half 38-24.

The Golden Eagles would look to cut into that lead in the second half and got the game to within single digits but the Lancers would hang on. The Lancers shot a blistering 46.7 percent from the 3-point line, outpacing the Golden Eagles in 3-pointers made 7-5, and advantage on assists 17-15.

For the game, LCCC forced 13 turnovers, including nine steals but the Lancers still shot 46.8 percent shooting. LCCC committed 18 turnovers in the game and shot 43.6 percent for the game. LCCC outrebounded the Lancers 38-33.

The Golden Eagles continue South Sub Region play this Saturday, Jan. 28 with a game against Western Nebraska Community College at home. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
