Hot Hands Spur Rattlers Past Golden Eagles

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Laramie County Community College shot 35.2 percent from the field Wednesday night but couldn't muster a comeback as they fell to Otero Junior College 71-64.

Three Golden Eagles scored in double digits. Caylin Arnold led LCCC with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Darian Hale collected 15, while Aubrey Goodrick scored 10. The Golden Eagles out rebounded the Rattlers 41-28. Mariah Sheets dished out four assists.

Laramie County (3-7) has now lost three games in a row. Savan Madrid-Andrews led the Rattlers with 18 points and teammate Lucia Serrano-Ranz chipped in with 11.

Madrid-Andrews and Serrano-Ranz helped the Rattlers to an early 14-1 lead six minutes into the game with a pair of 3-pointers. A 19-6 run to start the game spurred Otero to an early lead. LCCC would catch some fire and chip at the lead and get back into the game within four. As Otero cooled off in the second quarter they still took a 43-28 lead into the half.

The Golden Eagles who trailed by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter nearly mustered enough to pull a comeback. They would get within four late in the quarter but the Rattlers found a way to hold on.

The two teams will meet again in La Junta, Colorado on February 11. The Golden Eagles were 27.8 percent from the three-point line and shot 67.7 percent from the foul line.

Laramie County hosts Central Wyoming College at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7.
