Golden Eagles advance to Region IX championship game

CHEYENNE, WY - The No. 4 ranked Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (14-1-1) punched their ticket to the Region IX championship game with a 3-0 win over Western Nebraska (8-6-2) on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles entered play with the top scoring offense in Region IX and wasted little time opening the scoring, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute thanks to Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colo.) whipping a shot past the keeper in the top near corner from outside the box for his ninth goal of the season.

Jared Ramos (Thornton, Colo.) added to the lead six minutes later with his fourth goal of the season, sneaking into the box and beating the keeper in the 23rd minute to push the Golden Eagles' lead to 2-0.

The Golden Eagles extended the advantage to 3-0 in the 38th minute thanks to Manny Tapia (Longmont, Colo.) who scored his third goal of the season.

LCCC held most of the possession in the second half nearly adding to their lead, hitting the post on two occasions late in the second.

The Golden Eagles will face the winner of the Otero/Casper matchup in the Region IX championship game on Saturday at 2:30 pm. Admission to the game is free and can be live-streamed at golccc.com
