Six different goal scorers help Eagles to first-round win

CHEYENNE, WY - The No. 5 ranked Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (13-1-1) opened postseason play with a 6-0 win over Central Wyoming (3-13) in the first round of the Region IX tournament on Saturday afternoon. 

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring early when Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colo.) cut back into the box and beat the keeper to put the Golden Eagles in front 1-0 in the ninth minute. The goal for Castruita was his eighth of the season and his third goal in the month of October. 

Jonathan Jimenez-Flores (Longmont, Colo.) added to the lead eight minutes later, beating the keeper with a shot from 18 yards out, pushing the lead to 2-0 with his third goal of the season. Jimenez-Flores has now scored in back-to-back games for the first time this season. 

The Golden Eagles were able to add one more before the break as Jared Ramos (Thornton, Colo.) took a pass from Chuy Gonzalez (Caldwell, Idaho) and slotted the ball past the keeper to push the lead to 3-0 in the 30th minute. Ramos' goal was his third of the season and his second in the last three games. 

Manny Tapia (Longmont, Colo.) opened the second half with a bicycle kick that beat the keeper at the near post in the 52nd minute for his second goal of the season. Tanner Smith (Northglenn, Colo.) teamed up with Eric Thompson (Fort Collins, Colo.) to produce the Golden Eagles' fifth goal off a Smith shot to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Christian Nunez (Lafayette, Colo.) scored the final goal of the day, finishing off a cross from Roger Ibarra (Denver, Colo.) to give the Golden Eagles a 6-0 lead. 

LCCC will now host the Region IX tournament semi-finals and final starting on Friday afternoon.
