Golden Eagles wrap up regular season with 8-0 win over Rustlers

CHEYENNE, WY - The No. 7 ranked Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (12-1-1) wrapped up the regular season with an 8-0 win over Central Wyoming (3-10) on Monday afternoon. 

The Golden Eagles opened the game with constant pressure, nearly taking the lead in the first five minutes on a couple of shots that were placed over the bar. 

Noe Ortiz-Pena (Aurora, Colo.) continued his fine form, opening the scoring in the 21st minute stepping into a shot at the top of the box, and beating the keeper at the near post, giving the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. The goal was Ortiz-Pena's second goal in the last two games and his third goal of the season. 

The Golden Eagles wasted little time adding to their lead in the second half, scoring a pair of penalties. Alexis Flores (Aurora, Colo.) pushed the lead to 3-0 on a penalty in the 47th minute before Jose Bencomo (Aurora, Colo.) made it 4-0 in the 50th minute. 

Jonathan Jimenez-Flores (Longmont, Colo.) extended the lead to 5-0, scoring on a rebound in the 62nd minute with his second of the season. Chuy Gonzlez (Caldwell, Idaho) added a sixth for the Golden Eagles just one minute later, beating the keeper at the near post to make it a 6-0 lead for the Golden Eagles.  The goal was Gonzalez's third of the season. 

The Golden Eagles weren't done as Tanner Smith (Northglenn, Colo.) scored his fourth goal of the season in the 67th minute, extending the lead to 7-0 before Isaac Perez (Greeley, Colo.) scored his first goal of his career in the 85th minute, capping off an 8-0 win. 

Carlos Vargas (Heber City, Utah) doubled the lead just three minutes later., chipping in a shot from the far side of the box into the upper corner at the near post, pushing the lead to 2-0 in the 24th minute. The goal was Vargas' team-leading 12th goal of the season.
