Vargas scores in draw with Trojans

CHEYENNE, WY - The No. 8 ranked Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (6-1-1) scored a late regulation goal to send the game to overtime, settling for a 2-2 draw with Trinidad State (2-0-3) on Friday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the 54th minute when Jonathan Jimenez-Flores (Longmont, Colo.) knocked in a rebound to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Trinidad State answered four minutes later thanks to a penalty, evening the game at a goal apiece. 

The Trojans took the lead in the 71st minute when Connor Starr found a loose ball in the box and beat the keeper at the far post, putting Trinidad State in front, 2-1.

With three minutes left in regulation, the Golden Eagles were able to level the score thanks to Carlos Vargas (Heber City, Utah) who beat the keeper on a penalty to make it a 2-2 game. 

The Golden Eagles had a majority of the chances in overtime but would not be able to knock in the winner.

LCCC is back in action on Saturday, hosting Otero at 1:00 pm.
