Castruita's strike the difference in win at Northeastern

STERLING, CO - The No. 10 ranked Golden Eagles (6-1) held off the No. 18 ranked Northeastern Plainsmen (7-2), 2-1 on the road on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Golden Eagles and the Plainsmen played a scoreless first half after the Golden Eagles dominated much of the possession in the first 45 minutes.

LCCC opened the scoring in the 64th minute thanks Louis Castillo (Edwards, Colo.) scoring his first career goal, heading in a cross from Jonathan Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colo.) to give the Golden Eagles the 1-0 advantage. 

Castruita would double the Golden Eagles' lead just one minute later, striking a free-kick past the keeper towards the far post to up the lead to 2-0. The goal was Castruita's fifth of the season.

Northeastern cut the Golden Eagles' lead to 2-1 with a goal in the 76th minute but the LCCC defense was able to keep the Plainsmen from coming any closer, securing their fifth consecutive win. 

The Golden Eagles return home on Friday, September 24th when they host Otero at 1:00 pm in a rematch of last season's Region IX championship game.
