Golden Eagles open region play with win at Western Nebraska

SCOTTSBLUFF, NE - The No. 11 ranked Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (4-1) scored three first-half goals in route to a 3-1 win over Western Nebraska (4-1) on Wednesday night.

The Golden Eagles wasted little time, opening the scoring in the 8th minute when Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colo.) tapped in a cross from Carlos Vargas (Heber City, Utah) to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. The goal for Castruita was his third of the season.

Vargas added to his goal total in the 25th minute, extending the Golden Eagles' lead to 2-0 by knocking in a loose ball dropped by the Western Nebraska goalkeeper for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles controlled most of the possession in the first half and increased their advantage in the 35th minute when Imourana Naite (New York, N.Y.) headed in a free-kick from Chuy Gonzalez (Caldwell, Idaho) to push the lead to 3-0. The goal for Naite was his first career goal.

Western Nebraska scored their only goal in the 61st minute as the Golden Eagles held on to win their third straight game.
