Second-half effort puts away Coyotes

CHEYENNE, WY - The No. 13 ranked Golden Eagles (3-1) scored five unanswered goals to beat College of Southern Nevada (1-2) 5-1 on Friday afternoon.

Southern Nevada opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Alfredo Diaz got behind the Golden Eagles' defense, beating the keeper to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead.

That would be the only goal Southern Nevada could muster as the Golden Eagles scored the next five goals. Tanner Smith (Northglenn, Colo.) evened the scoreline in the 22nd minute, putting away a ball on a feed from Ethan Mathis (Cheyenne, Wyo.), tying the game at one.

Eight minutes later, Jose Bencomo (Aurora, Colo.) gave the Golden Eagles the lead, scoring the would-be game-winning goal on a penalty in the 45th minute.

Carlos Vargas (Heber City, Utah) recorded his second two-goal game of the season, scoring in the 49th and 50th minutes to extend the Golden Eagles' advantage to 4-1.

Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colo.) capped off the win with a goal in the 57th minute on a feed from Vargas, putting the score at 5-1.

LCCC will hit the road on Wednesday, heading to Scottsbluff, Neb. to face Western Nebraska at 4:30 pm.
