CHEYENNE, WY - Carlos Vargas (Heber City, Utah) scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, helping the No. 14 ranked Golden Eagles (1-0) beat the No 3. ranked Iowa Lakes Lakers (0-1) 3-2 in the season opener on Thursday afternoon.

Vargas gave the Golden Eagles the win in overtime, scoring a goal in 102nd minute as Chuy Gonzalez (Caldwell, Idaho) slipped a through ball past the defense, springing Vargas onto goal, putting home the game-winner. 

The Golden Eagles trailed 2-1 in the 89th minute before Eric Thompson (Fort Collins, Colo.) knocked in a shot from outside the box to send the game into overtime.

Vargas opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles converting on a penalty in the 7th minute before Iowa Lakes drew level with a goal in the 73rd minute.

The Golden Eagles will host Utah State-Eastern on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
