Golden Eagles Stay Alive in Pool Play

WICHITA, KS - The Golden Eagles scored two goals in 19 minutes to come from behind and beat LSU-Eunice 3-2 on Sunday morning, fighting off elimination in pool play.

Jonathan Jimenez-Flores (Longmont, Colo.) got behind the defense in the 78th minute and was able to slide a ball past the oncoming goalkeeper to give the Golden Eagles a 3-2 lead and the eventual win over the LSU-Eunice Bengals. 

The Golden Eagles took their first lead in the match in the 17th minute when Manny Tapia was able to put a ball past the diving keeper to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage. 

LSU-Eunice scored the next two goals of the match, tying the game at 1-1 in the 29th minute and then taking the lead at 2-1 thanks to a penalty in the 53rd minute.

It didn't take long for the Golden Eagles to draw level as Abe Lopez (Boulder, Colo.) converted a penalty to even the game at 2-2 in the 59th minute.

Brian Fierro (Thornton, Colo.) made six saves in the win. 

The Golden Eagles will now await the result of LSU-Eunice vs Iowa Western. If the Bengals beat Iowa Western by the score of 1-0, the Golden Eagles will advance to the semi-finals.
