Golden Eagles Dealt Defeat in Tournament Opener

WICHITA, KS - The Golden Eagles opened the NJCAA Men's Soccer Championships with a 1-0 loss to Iowa Western on Saturday morning. 

The only goal of the match came just before the halftime whistle as Iowa Western grabbed the lead. Ivan Callado was able to sneak a ball past the defense, putting the Reivers in front of the Golden Eagles 1-0 in the 44th minute. 

Iowa Western controlled play for a majority of the first half, producing 19 total shots in the first half.

Golden Eagles' keeper Declan Domyan (Johannesburg, South Africa) made six saves in the loss while Carlos Vargas (Heber City, Utah) led the Golden Eagles with two shots on goal.

LCCC outshot Iowa Western in the second half but could not net a tying goal.

The Golden Eagles will play LSU-Eunice on Sunday at 9:00 am MDT.
