Golden Eagles Claim Second Straight District Title

CASPER, WY - The Golden Eagles beat Otero 1-0 to claim their second consecutive Northwest Plains District championship on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles started out strong, almost opening the scoring in the fourth minute when Jared Ramos (Thornton, Colo.) struck a ball just wide of the goal.

Goalkeeper Declan Domyan (Johannesburg, South Africa) kept the game scoreless in the first 45 minutes, stopping all three shots put on target by the Rattlers.

LCCC scored the only goal of the match just four minutes into the second half when Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colo.) beat the keeper on a shot from 18 yards out to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles almost doubled the lead late when Manny Tapia (Longmont, Colo.) headed a ball past the keepers but was ruled offsides. 

Otero was held in check by the Golden Eagles defense who turned away the Rattlers in the final ten minutes to secure the victory.

The Golden Eagles have punched their ticket to the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer National Tournament for the second time in program history.
