Vargas Helps Golden Eagles Advance to Region IX Final

CASPER, WY - Carlos Vargas (Heber City, Utah) scored twice as the Golden Eagles beat Trinidad State 4-1 on Monday afternoon.

Playing into a heavy wind in the first half, the Golden Eagles opened the scoring thanks to Vargas who got behind the defense and put home a through ball from Jonathan Jimenez-Flores (Longmont, Colo.) to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute.

The Golden Eagles withstood heavy pressure from the Trojans at the tail end of the half but were able to send the game to halftime leading 1-0.

Jimenez-Flores doubled the Golden Eagles' lead just three minutes into the second half, scoring on a feed from Jared Ramos (Thornton, Colo.) to push the advantage to 2-0.

Trinidad State got on the board in the 55th minute thanks to a penalty on a handball in the box.

LCCC scored the next two goals of the match as Vargas scored his second of the game in the 83rd minute and Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colo.) scored a goal in the 87th minute as the Golden Eagles closed out the game with a 4-1 win.
