Men’s Soccer Defeats Otero for Region IX Title

DENVER, Colo. - #17 Laramie County Community College scored twice in the first half and once in the second half to defeat the Otero Junior College men's soccer team, 3-2, in the Region IX Championship game on Sunday evening at Regency Athletic Complex at Metro State University.

Bryan Vazquez (Denver, Colorado) scored the first goal of the opening half for LCCC (15-3) and added one in the second half that would end up being the game-winner. Jonathan Jimenez-Flores (Longmont, Colorado) scored the second goal for the Golden Eagles. LCCC had defeated Otero (11-5-1) 4-1 earlier in the year.

Declan Domyan (Johannesburg, South Africa) made four saves for the Golden Eagles. Vazquez first goal came in the 17th minute. Following a cross from the right by Manny Tapia (Longmont, Colorado), Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colorado) laid it off for Vazquez to finish first time on the inside of the right post.

Laramie County doubled its lead in the 37th minute when Jimenez-Flores collected a pass from Noe Ortiz-Pena (Aurora, Colorado) and fired a left-footed shot from 14 yards out on the left side into the lower-left corner.

In the 38th minute, Otero got a goal back, when Ousseynou Cisse converted on a penalty kick. Cisse would level the scoring up in the 48th minute.

Vazquez regained the lead for LCCC in the 67th minute, finishing a pass from Ortiz-Pena in front of goal.

LCCC will host the North Central District Championship match on Saturday, Nov. 9th against #7 Marshalltown Community College at the LCCC Soccer field for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
