LCCC Battles Otero to 4-3 Victory

The Laramie County Community College men's soccer team got a late goal from Jorge Rosales (Aurora, Colorado) in its showdown with Otero Junior College on Saturday, Oct. 1, at LCCC Field as the Golden Eagles earned a 4-3 victory at home.

LCCC outshot the Rattlers in the affair, 31-10, including posting a 13-9 advantage in shots on goal, as the Golden Eagles remained unbeaten at home this season.

Both sides had scoring chances early in the match and it was the Rattlers who would strike first as Blaise Balumwa put away a cross from Gimale Essacu in the 5th minute. Laramie County peppered the goal in the first firing away 15 shots in the half and were finally rewarded in the 42nd minute when Caleb Rondon (Los Oliuos, Peru) headed a cross from Rafael Munoz (Las Vegas, Nevada). A minute later Blaine Christenson (Gillette, Wyoming) was taken down in the box and Munoz stepped up and buried the penalty kick. LCCC would take a 2-1 lead into the half.

The Golden Eagles seemingly thought they had put the game to rest in the 51st minute when Munoz doubled the lead off a throw in from Eduardo Sanchez (Las Vegas, Nevada). Otero kept battling and got back into the game in the 59th minute as Cater Magee got on the end of Anthony Acosta's free kick. With less the eight minutes Balumwa got in behind the defensive line and played a ball to Bryan Gonzalez in front of goal who tied the game up. Two minutes later, Jonathan Ruvalcaba (Provo, Utah) had a scoring opportunity where he put it off the post and Rosales was there for the rebound and curled it home.

Munoz led all players in the with a game-high eight shots in the match, while teammate Jordan Garcia (Blackfoot, Idaho) posted seven shots and Ruvalcaba and Rosales chipped in with four shots. Johnathan Cuevas and Gonzalez directed the Rattlers' offensive efforts with a team-best three shots.

Andrew Hays (Gillette, Wyoming) recorded six saves for the Golden Eagles en route to his teams 10th win of the year. Today's match was the first time in five games that Hays had surrendered a goal. Omar Coronel finished with nine stops for OJC.

Laramie County returns to action on Oct. 7 as the Golden Eagles travel to Powell, Wyoming for a match against Northwest College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
