Oliver, McCord Lead Eagles to OT Win

CHEYENNE, WY - Erik Oliver, and Xavier McCord combined for 45 points, helping the Golden Eagles (2-3) knock off the Western Nebraska Cougars (2-2) 109-108, in overtime, on Tuesday evening at the RAC.

McCord (Cheyenne, Wyo.) scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half and in overtime, setting a new career-high while also hauling in 13 rebounds. 

After a first half that saw the Golden Eagles trailing 47-43 at the break, Western Nebraska went on an early run in the second half, eventually opening up a 15-point lead at 61-46.

Arion Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa.) cut into the deficit with a three, trimming the Cougars' advantage to ten at 63-53. Lewis finished the game with 17 points and 10 assists, one of three Golden Eagles to end the night with a double-double. 

LCCC pulled to within nine on an alley-oop finished off by McCord, cutting the deficit to 77-68. Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyo.) nailed a three to bring the Golden Eagles within a possession at 81-78 with 5:40 to play. Oliver finished the game with 24 points and brought down 10 rebounds.

A little over a minute later, Ghared Boyce (Brockton, Mass.) Boyce cut the Western Nebraska advantage to one at 86-85 with a jumper before later giving the Golden Eagles the lead at 88-86 with a corner three. Boyce ended the evening with 18 points.

With LCCC leading by three with 10 seconds left, the Cougars hit a three at the buzzer to tie the game at 95, sending the game into overtime. 

After the Cougars started the overtime period on a 4-0 run, the Golden Eagles put together a 12-2 run to take a 107-101 lead before Western Nebraska snatched the lead back. 

McCord put the Golden Eagles up for good with a layup with 35 seconds left as LCCC held on for the 109-108 win, snapping a two-game losing skid. 

Marko Maletic (London, Ontario) tallied 14 points in the win.

The Golden Eagles host Trinidad State Friday afternoon at 3:00 at the RAC.
