Oliver’s 51-Points Lifts Golden Eagles Above Trappers

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – The Golden Eagles hosted Trappers of Northwest College in a Region IX North matchup on Wednesday night. Earlier the season, the Golden Eagles edged the Trappers, 70-68, on the road. This time around, the Golden Eagles were pretty much in control from the beginning thanks to Erik Oliver's (Cheyenne, Wyoming) 51 points as the Golden Eagles defeated the Trappers 102-90. With this victory, the Golden Eagles move to 4-17 on the season and 2-5 in Region IX North.

The Golden Eagles raced out to an early lead thanks to Oliver hitting a few three-pointers. Northwest kept it close but a little over halfway through the first half, LCCC would go on a 7-0 run to extend the lead. LCCC led 51-41 at the half and were led by Oliver who had 29 first half points.

In the second half, Oliver continued to stay warm from the field and got help from Mateo Zovko (Mostar, Bosnia). NC would hang around but the Golden Eagles answered each run by the Trappers.

The Golden Eagles shot 51.4 percent (38-of-73) from the field and hist 13-of-28 (46.4%) from beyond the arc. At the line, the Golden Eagles converted 13-of-22 (59.1%) free throws. The Golden Eagles pulled down 41 total rebounds, including 18 offensive rebounds.

Individually, Erik Oliver led the Golden Eagles with a school record 51 points followed by Zovko with 23 points. On the boards, Yusef Washington Jr. (Denver, Colorado) pulled down 10 rebounds. Zovko dished out five of the Golden Eagles 23 assists and collected six steals. Three Golden Eagles recorded a block on the night.

The Golden Eagles will hit the road for a Region IX North match on Saturday, February 1st at 4 p.m. against #22 Casper College in Casper, Wyoming.
