Golden Eagles End Up On Wrong Side of Matchup Against Western Wyoming

ROCK SPRINGS – The Laramie County Community College men's basketball team was back in action on the road on Wednesday evening. The boys in Navy and Gold took on #12 Western Wyoming Community College in Region IX North action. In a grueling game that saw the Golden Eagles fight and claw, LCCC came up just short by a final score of 83-71.

Early on, Damien Perry (North Dartmouth, Massachusetts) managed to give the Golden Eagles the offensive boost they needed after hitting a couple crossover jump shots in the Golden Eagles' half-court sets. As the half winded down, the Mustangs went on a run and held the advantage and headed into halftime up by 14, 46-32.

The second half saw a massive improvement in the shot percentage from the Golden Eagles. Chris Grace (Needville, Texas) had a big second half performance as the Golden Eagles looked to close the gap. LCCC would get the lead down to six but Western Wyoming answered and extended the lead back into double digits.

Freshman guard Damien Perry was fundamental to the Golden Eagles offensive attacks in both fast breaks and half-court sets. The North Dartmouth product recorded a team-high 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, knocking down five three-pointers and adding a steal. Chris Grace shot 6-of-14 from the field to tally 14 points on the evening while pulling down five boards. Erik Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyoming) was the other Golden Eagle in double figures with 13 points.

As the squad looks ahead to their next opponent, they will return home to the RAC and clash with the Pronghorns of Gillette College in another Region IX North contest. The Golden Eagles currently sit at 3-15 overall (1-4 Region IX North) and will look for the second Region IX North win of the season against a talented Pronghorns basketball team.
