Men’s Basketball Succumbs Late in Home Loss to Lamar CC

CHEYENNE – Landon Taliaferro (Boulder, Colorado) finished with 29 points hitting five 3-pointers in the game, while Elijah Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyoming) added 24 points, but Lamar Community College rallied late in the game to earn a 96-87 victory over Laramie County Community College in a Region IX South men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the RAC.

The Golden Eagles fall to 11-11 overall and 4-4 in Region IX South play. The improved to 13-8 and 4-4 in the Region IX South.

Richard Caldwell of Lamar led them in scoring with 22 points. The Lopes erased a 44-38 deficit to earn the victory.

Two other Golden Eagles scored in double figures as Da'Zhon Wyche (Anchorage, Alaska) added 13 points and Zaire Mateen (Queens, New York) had 11 points. Solomon Iluyomade (London, England) led the team in rebounds with eight.

As a team the Golden Eagles shot 49.2 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from the 3-point line and 79.2 percent from the foul line. The Lopes shot 57.4 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from the 3-point line and 69.2 percent from the foul line. Each team committed 14 turnovers and the Lopes had the edge on the boards 36-29.

Laramie County will play Wednesday night at home against McCook Community College at 7 p.m.
