LCCC Men’s Basketball Falls to Central Wyoming College

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Laramie County Community College men's basketball team got within three at the half, but Central Wyoming College would not surrender the lead in the second half en route to a 80-69 win over the Golden Eagles on Tuesday evening at the Recreation Athletic Center.

Laramie County falls to 7-5 on the season while the Rustlers improve to 9-2.

LCCC had four players finish in double-figures and was led by Zaire Mateen (Queens, New York) with 22 points. Elijah Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyoming) and Landon Taliaferro (Boulder, Colorado) added 12 points and Kyle Wright (West Orange, New Jersey) dropped 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

The Rustlers were led by Irshaad Hunte double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Baris Ulker added 17 points, Henry Tanksley had 15 points and Marquis White chipped in with 12 points. The Rustlers connected from the field and made it count from the line (21-for-28).

Laramie County trailed early 8-16 early in the contest before a solid run put them ahead 31-29 on a Mateen layup with 2:49 left in the first half. The Rustlers would regain the lead and head into the half with a 37-34 lead.

The Golden Eagles shot 38.2 percent from the field and connected on 3-of-8 from the outside.

CWC opened the half on a 6-0 run in the first two and half minutes of the second half to push the lead to nine. LCCC would get back within three but could not muster enough for the comeback as the Rustlers were 18-of-20 from the foul-line in the second half.

LCCC will remain at home on Thursday vs Northeastern Junior College with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
