Men’s Basketball Win on Buzzer Beater

CASPER – Four players finished in double figures, led by Zaire Mateen (Queens, New York) with 30 points as the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles defeated Casper College, 95-93 on a buzzer beater by Elijah Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyoming) on Tuesday evening.

Oliver finished with 24 points and three steals. Landon Taliaferro (Boulder, Colorado) contributed 21 points and knocked down five three-pointers and Solomon Iluyomade (London, England) chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

Casper led 56-35 at the half and held a 21 point lead with eight minutes to go. LCCC stormed back late in the second half outscoring the Thunderbirds 19-1 in the final four minutes. Oliver came off a screen and banked in a jumper from the free-throw line at the buzzer to secure the victory.

Antun Mericevic had 25 points and seven rebounds to lead the Thunderbirds. Two other players also scored in double figures for the hosts. Wilfried Likayi had 22 points and Damian Wilson had 11.

Up next the Golden Eagles head Riverton, Wyoming for the Central Wyoming Classic where they will play Central Wyoming College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Western Wyoming Community College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
