Win Over Lamar Sends LCCC to Region IX Championship Game

Gillette, Wyo. – LCCC punched their ticket to the Region IX title game following a 74-70 win over Lamar Community College in Friday's semifinal game in Gillette, Wyoming.

Led by Dominik Heinzl double-double that included 16 points and 10 rebounds along with Da'Zhon Wyche team-high 18 points, the Golden Eagles (23-10) held off the Runnin' Lopes (26-7) to advance to Saturday's championship game.

Alfonzo Anderson also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ola Ayodele added 14 points. Lamar was led by Michael Skinner with 16 points.

LCCC wasted little time in the game opening moments, as the Golden Eagles raced out to an 11-2 advantage. Lamar responded with a run in the closing minutes of the first half to take the lead. A three-pointer from Wyche at the buzzer, gave LCCC a 30-29 lead going into the locker room.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles opened their lead to as many as nine. LCC would not go away quietly though, as the Runnin' Lopes drew to within four points with 2:04 remaining.

That would be as close as LCC would come to the Golden Eagles, as LCCC would drain free-throws down the stretch.

With the win over Lamar, the Golden Eagles have won 10 or their last 11 games. The Runnin' Lopes did have the advantage on the boards, 47-39. As a team LCCC shot 37.7 percent from the field, 20 percent from the three-point line and 77.4 percent from the charity stripe.
