LCCC’s Men’s Basketball Falls to WNCC

SCOTTSBLUFF, NE – Laramie County Community College men's basketball fell to Western Nebraska Community College 83-63 in a South Sub Region match-up.

The Golden Eagles drop to 13-9 overall and 7-3 in South Sub Region play, while the Cougars improve to 15-8 overall and 6-3 in South Sub Region.

The LCCC Golden Eagles won the first meeting of the season on Dec. 3, 76-68 at home.

The Cougars dominated the first half as they climbed to a 17-point lead at the half powered by Djodje Dimitrijevic. WNCC lead 37-20 at the break. They had a hot hand in the half shooting 51.6 percent in the first half on 16-of-31 shooting. The Golden Eagles shot 35 percent in the half on 7-of-20 shooting.

The Cougars kept their lead throughout the second half but the Golden Eagles did get back within single digits. In the end LCCC just couldn't break through to get back from the large deficit. The Golden Eagles continued to struggle through the rest of the game as WNCC fought to an 83-63 win.

LCCC's Ola Ayodele (London, England) led the team in scoring with 17 points on 6-of-8, including 5-of-9 from the free-throw line. He added seven rebounds. Dominik Heinzl (Uzov, Czech Republic) and Alfonzo Anderson (Newark, New Jersey) were the only other Golden Eagles in double digits with 14 and 13 points respectively.

Three WNCC players finished with double-digits scoring – Dimitrijevic 23 points; Vinnie Shahid – 18 points and RJ Palmer – 10 points.

The Golden Eagles hit 51.1 percent from the field going 24-of-47 and 2-of-11 from 3-point range for 18.2 percent. They sank 13-of-21 from the charity stripe for 61.9 percent.

The Cougars hit 55 percent from the field going 33-of-60 and 8-of-21 from 3-point range for 38.1 percent. They sank 9-of-13 from the free-throw line for 69.2 percent.

LCCC forced 12 turnovers and committed 13 fouls, while WNCC forced 20 turnovers and committed 21 fouls.

The Golden Eagles will be back at home with a game against Air Force Prep on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
