Plainsmen Take Win over LCCC, 103-98

STERLING, CO – The Laramie County Community College men's basketball team (11-8, 5-2) fell 103-98 against Northeastern Junior College (12-7, 5-3) in South Sub Region action in Sterling, Colorado on Wednesday.

Da'Zhon Wyche got the Golden Eagles started on the right foot. Wyche connected on four three-pointers in the first half with three of those in the first seven minutes. The Golden Eagles bombed away from long range, hitting 7-of-16 attempts in the first half to keep the game close. Garrett Baggett gave the Plainsmen a spark going 5-of-7 in the half for 13 points. The Plainsmen went into the locker room up 47-43.

The Golden Eagles started slow in the second half and trailed by as many as 12 in the half. The Golden Eagles whittled that margin down to three points in the closing minutes of the game.

For the game, the Plainsmen outshot the Golden Eagles 57.9%-47.9% from the field and 46.2%-45.5% from long range. Free throws were a big factor for NJC as they shot 93.9 percent (31-of-33) for the game. LCCC shot 65 percent (13-of-20). The Plainsmen outscored the Golden Eagles 48-38 in points in the paint

LCCC did get contribution from its bench as Elijah Oliver scored 14 points and Landon Taliaferro added 11. The Golden Eagles were led by Wyche who dropped 33 points in the game and hit eight three-pointers. He also led with eight assist and three steals. NJC was led Baggett who had 36 points.

The Golden Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lamar Community College. That South Sub Region contest is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start in Lamar, Colorado.
