Golden Eagles Men Fly Past McCook CC

McCOOK, NE – The Laramie County Community College men's basketball team put together a strong road performance in South Sub Region play Saturday afternoon, defeating McCook Community College 96-72 in McCook, Nebraska.

The Golden Eagles (11-7, 5-1) now have a share of the South Sub Region top standing with Lamar CC and will look to take sole position of the standings on Wednesday night when they visit Northeastern Junior College. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Sterling, Colorado.

LCCC controlled the opening half, shooting 51.6 percent as a team before the break, to secure a 45-32 lead over the Indians (10-5, 2-3). The Golden Eagles continued to build onto that lead and shot even better in the second half going 20-of-34 (58.8%) from the floor.

Sophomore Alfonzo Anderson led the Golden Eagles with 17 points. Elijah Oliver added 16 points off the bench while freshman Da'Zhon Wyche also added 16 points in the victory. Anderson not only led the team in scoring but recorded the double-double pulling down 13 rebounds to go along with his 17 points. Ola Ayodele dished out six assists. The Golden Eagles ended the afternoon shooting 55.4 percent (36-of-65) from the field, hitting just 4-of-12 (33.3%) three-pointers and shot 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the foul line.

The Golden Eagles did hold MCC to just 2-of-22 three-pointers (9.1%) Saturday. MCC finished Saturday's game shooting 29.9 percent (23-of-77) and were 24-of-33 (72.7%) from the line as both teams hit their free throws.
