LCCC Holds on to Late Lead

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Laramie County Community College men's basketball overcame a poor-shooting percentage from the foul-line Saturday afternoon, defeating the Trojans of Trinidad State Junior College in South-Sub Region play 73-70 at RAC Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles shot 40.3 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three-point line but struggled from the foul-line shooting 53.3 percent. The Trojans shot 42.4 percent from the field, 28.6 percent from the three-point line and 69.6 percent from the foul-line.

Both teams exchanged buckets in the early moments of the game. Laramie County jumped to a four point lead with 11:33 remaining in the first half. LCCC would go on an 11-2 run over the next six minutes. The Golden Eagles led 43-26 at intermission.

The Golden Eagles came out in the second half and pushed the lead to as many as 14 with 13:26 remaining. The Trojans would go on spurts and get within three with 4:38 remaining. Late free-throw by Ola Ayodele and a turnover by Trinidad State in the last possession helped the Golden Eagles seal the victory.

Freshman Elijah Oliver led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 18 points. That included three baskets from three-point range. Dominik Heinzl added 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Da'Zhon Wyche chipped in with 10 points and nine assists. The Golden Eagles outrebounded Trinidad State 46-38.

LCCC is on the road next Wednesday Jan. 11 against North Platte Community College. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in North Platte, Nebraska.
